Michael Bourque

In my award-winning career, I have pursued parallel interests in design, painting and
photography. Today I am discovering new connections between all three creative media.
My education includes American University, Pratt Institute and The School of the Museum of

Fine Arts at Tufts University. I am widely traveled but have spent my career living and working

in Boston. I have enjoyed a distinguished career in commercial interior design. I also enjoy

photography and my “Art of the Fan” series is part of the collection of the Museum of Fine Arts Library collection.

My years of working with architects has given me a well-trained eye. I often remove
perspective from my paintings but love texture and relief. Similarly, I love color and I use it
prolifically.

ARTisSpectrum Magazine critique my work stating “American artist Michael Bourque’s acrylic
paintings are a thought-provoking mixture of abstraction, repetition, and improvisation”.
The Agora Gallery has observed “Where Bourque’s work breaks out of the ordinary is in the
little vignettes and flashes of genius that he allows to peek through the pattern. His pieces are large-scale both in physical size and in the volume of information they contain”.
