Bill Hecht

Bill grew up in the shadow of the Apollo program. As a young boy he was transfixed watching massive machines rising on a pillar of fire headed for space. His Saturdays were spent watching The Thunderbirds, Star Trek, and Dr. Who. He devoured novels by Asimov, Clark and Heinlein. All these experiences showed a future of great adventure and promise, accompanied by a faithful metal companion. Unfortunately the present fell woefully short of that. Roomba and self-driving cars may be cool but certainly lack the reassuring yet potentially sinister metal gleam of the robots from his dreams.

Given the disappointing robots of the present, Bill took his love of design and building to make the future that never arrived. Repurposing vintage electronics, Bill's goal is to create sculptures that look real, project a definite personality, and make people smile. His work has been shown in galleries in and around Boston since 2017. Bill works and lives at Western Avenue Studios and Lofts in Lowell Massachusetts.
